President Dr. John Magufuli has continued to form his second term government where today he swore in Kassim Majaliwa as Prime Minister, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi to be Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and Dr. Philip Plan to be Minister of Finance and Planning as steps to continue completing the cabinet.
Speaking after swearing in the nominees, President Magufuli urged them to work twice as much as they did in the first term as this period is not comfortable and their appointment will depend on their performance.
Citing the example of the Prime Minister, he said he has seen people in Lindi region rejoicing that they have given the Prime Minister another five years, but he said the job does not guarantee that the nominee must stay for five years.
“Prime Minister, I congratulate you very much for this position, I grew up looking at your fellow former prime ministers who stayed and I saw you appoint me quickly now I do not know what I got? For Nyerere stayed one year, Kawawa three, Sokoine three, Msuya five, Sokoine returned and stayed one year again, Dr Salim stayed one year, Warioba five, Malecela four and Msuya returned to stay one, Sumaye he stayed all 10 years, Lowassa three and Turn seven. So my brothers and sisters, I want you to understand that the position of prime minister is not a ‘guarantee’, it will depend on his performance, so pray to God and MPs and pray for him so that he can achieve Sumaye and Mama Majaliwa’s record.
He said he had traveled all over the country and the people had trusted him by giving him a landslide vote, so those votes must be reflected in what the government will do.
“The faith they have given to the Revolutionary Party we must fulfill with all our might,” stressed Magufuli.
Dr. Magufuli said he had to start with the two ministries because financial matters could not wait until he appointed the entire council, and that the foreign minister was important to have someone to represent the country internationally at all times
